INTERACT

The Interact Club of Borrego Springs is a high school service club sponsored by the Rotary Club of Borrego Springs. The club meets weekly at noon at the high school. Holidays are usually acknowledged with some activity, and invited speakers come to talk about their passions.

Borrego Springs High School’s Interact Club, led by Rotarian Core Jaramillo, is following in the footsteps of our Club with their focus on service to others, both in our community and beyond.

The Interact Club of Borrego Springs is committed to service above self. Recently two Interactors, Natalie Carmona and David Hernandez, traveled to Khovd, Mongolia, with Rotarian Martha Deichler.  They brought a large suitcase full of physical education equipment, which is a commodity that is difficult to find in this remote location. A partnership has been set up between the Mongolian Progress School and Borrego Springs High School.  Khovd and Borrego Springs are also partner towns.

In addition to their work in Mongolia, the Interactors of Borrego Springs also work with a local minister and his wife, who manages an orphanage in Mexicali. The Interactors regularly stuff backpacks full of personal hygiene supplies and school materials for the 20+ children living in the orphanage. The children look forward to these backpacks and the kind words of encouragement the Interactors include in their cards and letters. The Interactors are bilingual.

Recently, the Interactors of Borrego Springs were instrumental in distributing over 400 toys to local families during Rotary’s Holiday Toy Drive. As Rotarians organized the drive-by toy drive, Interactors scurried between cars and the room full of toys, serving as “Santa” while delivering a bag of toys to each car. Everyone had a great time, which is one of the club’s requirements!

The Interact Club of Borrego Springs is a valuable asset to the community. They are dedicated to serving others, both locally and internationally. They are a group of young people who are making a difference in the world.
