Who We Are
Rotary International was founded in 1905 by Paul Harris, a young attorney in Chicago. He wanted to create a club where professionals from different backgrounds could come together to build friendships and serve their community. The first Rotary club met in each other’s businesses, hence the name “Rotary.” The group quickly grew, and by the end of the year there were over 30 members.
Today Rotary International has over 1.2 million members in 535 clubs in over 120 countries. The organization is non-political and non-religious, and its primary purpose is humanitarian service and the promotion of goodwill and peace. Rotarians work on projects that address a wide range of community needs, such as providing clean water, education, and healthcare. We also support disaster relief efforts around the world.
The success of Rotary is due in part to the diverse nature of our membership. Rotarians come from all walks of life and bring various skills and experiences to the table. This diversity allows Rotarians to exchange ideas and form meaningful, lifelong friendships.
The Rotary Club of Borrego Springs was founded in 1987. We are committed to the following four pillars:
- Service Above Self: Rotarians believe that service to others is the rent we pay for our room on earth. They work on a variety of projects that benefit the community, such as providing scholarships to local students, supporting local charities, and volunteering at community events.
- Integrity: Rotarians are committed to honesty, fairness, and respect. They believe that these qualities are essential for building strong relationships and creating a better world.
- Fellowship: Rotarians enjoy spending time together and building friendships. They believe that strong relationships are essential for a happy and fulfilling life.
- Diversity: Rotarians believe that diversity is a strength. They welcome members from all walks of life and strive to create a club that is inclusive and welcoming to everyone.
Our club is proud to be a part of Rotary International and committed to serving our community and making the world a better place. We invite you to learn more about our club and how you can get involved.
